IEBC relays first batch of verified presidential results from constituencies

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries (IEBC) has Thursday relayed verified presidential results as it races against time to beat the seven-day deadline to declare the final results.

During a brief presser by IEBC Chair Wafula Chebukati at the national tallying centre,  he released the first batch of constituency-verified presidential results from Webuye East Constituency.

In the results which were read out, the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition candidate Raila Odinga garnered 13,720 votes. In contrast, United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate William Ruto bagged 16, 412 votes.

Roots Party candidate George Wajackoyah on his part garnered 249 votes while his counterpart from the Agano Party divide David Mwaure got a mere 110 votes.

The total number of registered voters in the Constituency was 48,950. Valid votes were 30,491 while the number of rejected ballots was 384.

As of 8 pm Thursday, the commission had uploaded 46,193 of 46,229 form 34As which translates to 99.92 per cent.

In addition, 138 of 291 form 34Bs had been reported translating to 47.42 per cent.

Returning Officers from different constituencies have been streaming in to present the forms 34Bs which are critical in the ongoing verification exercise of the votes.

On Wednesday, Chebukati explained that the commission must compare and verify uploaded forms before making the result official.
