The Inspector General of police Hillary Mutyambai has assured the beleaguered former three-time world and Olympic 1500m Champion Asbel Kiprop of the Police Support.
Kiprop is serving a 4-year doping ban slapped on him by IAAF’s Athletics Integrity Unit for using blood-boosting substance EPO.
In the aftermath of the ban, Kiprop who won three world titles and Olympic gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics has been fodder for social media with his May 27th tweet eliciting varied reactions after he threatened to harm himself if the Police failed to disarm him.
Mr Mutyambai through his twitter handle offered to help the embattled metric mile runner.
“Chief Inspector Asbel Kiprop is our hero. We must never forget him,” said the Inspector General.
“I am here to take care of all officers as they provide safety & security to all, I included. Let us share what we are going through to avoid what we have seen where sadly, officers have had to take away their lives,” he added.
The Inspector General promised to personally follow up on Asbel Kiprop’s case.
Kiprop was banned for using banned substance EPO following an out of race test conducted in Iten in 2017.
