Impassable Kajiado to Mashuru road irks residents

By Stanley Ngotho

Irked by the dilapidated Kajiado to Mashuru road, residents in Kajiado took to the streets blocking Namanga road to register their displeasure.

And for over seven hours protesters barricaded the road using twigs and old vehicle-tyres demanding that the road be redone.
“This road is deplorable, we want this road done to save us the anguish of suffering long hours on the road,” they said as they waved twigs on the dilapidated road that is also the road to neighboring Tanzania.

It took a contingent of both regular and Administration Police officers nearly two hours to disperse the irate crowd.

The 55 kilometers road to that connects Kajiado town and Mashuru headquarters is used for the transportation of livestock to market.

Even as the county government promised to begin work on the road, residents continued their demand for better services from the Kajiado County government.

“Lorries transporting livestock to the market often breakdown causing us a lot of suffering and losses,” said one of the residents.

A team of road engineers toured the Magadi to Kiserian and Kiserian to Isinya road after public outcry and promised to begin work on the road.
