East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Speaker Joseph Ntakirutimana

East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Speaker Joseph Ntakirutimana has called for an increase of the Budget of the Community to finance activities of the assembly like committee meetings and plenary sessions. 

He also called for the full implementation of the Administration of the East African Legislative Assembly Act, 2012, to ensure the full implementation of the financial and administrative autonomy of the EALA. 

He was speaking at the close of the 5th Assembly induction programme in Arusha, Tanzania, 

Ntakirutimana reiterated the full adoption by the Council of French and Swahili as languages of the Community. 

Topics to be presented range from the Role of EALA, Key Pillars of the integration processes (Customs Union, Common Market, Monetary Union and ultimately Political Federation), the achievements so far realised, the challenges being faced and the future prospects.

Presentations called for the amendment of the Treaty for the Establishment of the East African Community to reflect the tremendous growth that has taken place in the Community since its formation and to improve the decision-making process at the regional body.
