Inua Jamii beneficiaries to collect money from commercial banks

The Principal Secretary Labor and Social Protection Nelson Marwa has directed the Directors of Social Development and Children’s Department to mobilize the beneficiaries of the Inua Jamii cash transfer program to collect their money from commercial banks beginning Monday.

This is after the government wired over Shs. 8.7 billion to four banks for payment to over one million beneficiaries who comprise elderly persons aged over 70, persons with severe disabilities and vulnerable children.

Marwa said the beneficiaries will receive shs. 8,000 each being payment for July, August, September and October.

He however, issued a stern warning to ministry officers derailing the initiative saying laxity will not be tolerated.

Marwa said he will make impromptu visits to banks and county offices to ensure compliance with the government directive.

Following the cleaning of the register of beneficiaries 15,000 beneficiaries who have since died were removed from the register.

Over 60,000 who have not opened bank accounts have until February to do so failure to which it will be assumed to have been benefiting illegally.
