Isaac Mutuma has officially been sworn in as Meru Governor taking over from Kawira Mwangaza.
The swearing ceremony took place Monday morning at Mwendatu Grounds in Meru Town.
In his maiden speech, the new Governor committed to working together with leaders from the region by holding regular consultation meetings to champion the interests of the region and development of services to Meru residents.
“I declare today the political grandstanding has come to an instant end. I commit to working with each one of you. I will operate an open door policy where each one of you is welcome,” he said.
He also urged Kenyans living abroad who are from the region to come back home and help develop the county.
All leaders from Meru County, the professionals and those in diaspora, please come home, lets tell them to back home,” he added.
Earlier, a petitioner had moved to court to dispute Meru’s new Governor swearing-in terming it illegal.
Mutuma, who was Kawira Mwangaza’s deputy, becomes Meru’s fourth county boss.
The swearing-in ceremony follows the High Court’s decision to uphold the Senate’s impeachment of Governor Kawira Mwangaza on Friday, March 14, 2025.
