Isiolo County unveils Ksh35M bursary kit for needy students

Isiolo County government has rolled out a 35 Million shillings bursary kit to cushion parents against education expenses as it faces a possible famine.

Isiolo County Governor Mohamed Kuti said the bursary fund will be disbursed at ward level unlike previous years where the process was done at the County headquarters.

Speaking at the County office grounds during the launch, Governor Mohamed Kuti said the change in mode of disbursement has been informed by previous incidents of manipulation, hence not benefiting the targeted students.

The governor said that the move was geared towards eradicating a trend where responsible officers benefited from the kitty leaving out the targeted student.

He said that come next year, the name of the beneficiary will be inscribed on the cheque instead of that of the school so that the targeted student to ensure transparency.

Buku Golicha, a parent lauded the move by the County government, calling for an increase in amount of the kitty.

During the launch, governor Kuti flagged off 15,000 text books for the competency based curriculum to be distributed across 164 ECDE Centres in the County.
