“It would be an honour to be DP Ruto’s running mate,” Gvn Waiguru says

Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru says it will be an honour to be selected Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate for the August elections.

Waiguru says she has what it takes to be the second in command and the first Woman Deputy President in the Country.

Speaking in Kirinyaga after being endorsed by a section of United Democratic Party (UDA) aspirants, Waiguru said, “I am Honored to host the Kirinyaga County UDA nominees meeting today. Top on our agenda was the team’s unity of purpose as the surest path to victory for our Party leader and Kenya’s 5th President William Ruto and for every UDA nominee in this county on Aug 9th.”

She acknowledged that the decision on who will be the running mate lies squarely with the DP Ruto, but either way they will continue supporting the DP until he ascends into power.

“To be mentioned as a possible running mate is respectable and fulfilling. It’s a sign that I have the credentials to lead at that level. I have received lots of encouragement from members of the party as well as my supporters and am hoping one of us is selected,” she said.

Waiguru said selecting a woman to be the Deputy will change the narrative in Kenyan politics and will be a big plus in the pursuit for gender equality in the Country.

Presidential candidates have until May 16th to name their running mates following an agreement between the IEBC and political parties.
