Jackline Wambui scoops gold in 800m finals



Jackline Wambui won a Gold medal Saturday afternoon in the ongoing IAAF World Under 18 Athletics championships after finishing first in the 800 metres finals at the Kasarani Stadium.

Wambui completed the two lap race in a time of 2 minutes 01.46 minutes ahead of compatriot Lydia Cherutoh who bagged Silver.

Hirut Meshesha of Ethiopia finished third to win bronze medal.

In the boys 3000m, Edward Zakayo and Stanley Mburu clinched a Silver and Bronze medals respectively. Ethiopia’s Selemon Barega won a gold medal.

On Saturday Dominic Samson Ndigiti clinched a bronze medal in the boys 10,000m walk race after finishing in the third position in the ongoing IAAF under 18 championships.

Samson clocked 41mins 25.78 secs while China’s Yao Zhang timed 41mins 12.01 secs to clinch a gold medal. Salavat Ilkaev of Russia who was competing as a neutral athlete clinched a Silver medal after finishing in the second position timing 41mins 24.17 secs.

Moitalel Mpoke won silver in the 400 meters hurdles finals while Edina Jebitok won a bronze medal in the 1500 meters girl’s final. Rachel Nzangi came in fourth position.

The Kenya boys and girls have had a sterling performance since the IAAF World Under 18 championships kicked off on Wednesday.
