Kajiado, Kilifi approve respective 2018/2019 budgets

Kajiado and Kilifi county assemblies have approved their respective county government’s 2018/2019 budgets.

While Kajiado County allocated a huge chunk of its 9.5 billion shillings budget to health, most of Kilifi County’s 13 billion shillings budget will finance recurrent expenditure and completion of stalled projects.

Two weeks after National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich presented the national budget, several counties have followed suit.

Kajiado County budget focused more on healthcare with the county government allocating 250 million shillings to upgrade and equip health facilities in the area.

The county proposed to continue with the NHIF drive to ensure residents are able to access affordable and sustainable health care.

The county government of Kajiado allocated over 200 million shillings for water projects as the county seeks to be food secure.

Kajiado county government estimates the total development projects to cost 4 billion shillings.

In  Kilifi, the  county assembly’s  budget and appropriation committee reduced  new development allocations by 500 million shillings.

The committee reduced allocation for the Deputy Governor’s residence by nearly half to 114 million shillings saying the initial allocation was way above what was allocated for the governor’s residence.

The committee revoked the 17 million shillings earmarked for setting up a radio station.
