Kenya Airways suspends flights to India indefinitely

Kenya Airways has Friday suspended passenger flights between India and Kenya until further notice.

Through a statement, KQ said that the move was in accordance with the Government of Kenya’s directive on travel between the two countries.

Kenya Airways however says that cargo operations will continue to run to facilitate delivery of emergency supplies including pharmaceuticals and medical equipment to Kenya and across Africa.

Customers affected by the suspension are urged to change their bookings for later travel or exchange their booking for a voucher that can be redeemed for future travels within 12 months.

The statement by the national airline comes a day after the government suspended all flights to and from India for 14 days.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said the National Response Committee (NERC) arrived at the decision after deliberations following the upsurge of COVID-19 cases in India.

The Health CS however said passengers arriving from India will undergo mandatory COVID-19 tests and will also be required to take 14 days quarantine on arrival.

“All passengers arriving from India shall be subjected to rapid antigen testing upon arrival at our ports of entry and shall be required to strictly observe a 14-day quarantine period that will be closely monitored by our health officials,” he added

The CS stated that although the government empathized with India’s plight there was a need to take preventive measures to avoid the similar monumental surge of the deadly virus being replicated in the country.

He however added that Kenya had pledged to offer assistance to the corona-stricken country.
