Kenya Chess team to participate in the Global Olympiad Chess tournament

The Kenya Chess team will participate in the Global Olympiad Chess tournament after KCB Bank Kenya sponsored them to a tune of Kshs 583,000.

The team will jet off ton Wednesday evening for the competition that kicks off on 1 September- 14 September in Baku.

KCB Bank Kenya Director Retail Banking Annastacia Kimtai has lauded the team on the previous performance urging them to give their best in the global outing.

“As a bank we continue to invest in sports because we believe in inspiring the current and the future generations to achieve the best. I believe that the team has prepared well and they are ready to take on other global champions”, said Annastacia.

The 42nd chess Olympiad feature a record 182 teams representing 176 countries. Kenya will be making a 16th appearance at the chess Bi annual premier showcase. The venue for the event is the Crystal Hall and the congress will be held at the Fairmont hotel.

The Chess Olympiad is a biennial chess tournament in which teams from all over the world compete. It is an equivalent to the Olympic Games for Athletics. Fédération Internationale des Échecs (FIDE) organises the tournament and selects the host nation.
