Kenya finishes 35th in Paralympic games

Kenya finished 35th at this year’s Paralympic  Games after collecting a total of three Gold one Silver and two Bronze at the games whose climax was last night at a packed ultra modern Maracana stadium in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.

The next edition of the games will be held in 2020 in Tokyo, Japan. Samuel Kimani won Kenya her first Gold medal in the men’s 5,000m T11 class before following it up with a second Gold when he won the  men’s  T11, 1,500M race.

Henry Kirwa won Kenya her 3rd Gold in the men’s 5,000m T12/T13 category.

Nancy Chelangat earned her place as the sole Kenyan female athlete who won a medal at the event after she finished second in the women’s T11 category.

Wilson Bii clinched Bronze with a 3rd place finish in T11 5,000M RACE, A second bronze was won by Henry Kirwa in the men’s 1,500m race.

Kenya finished the championship 35th overall and 7th in Africa, Behind Nigeria who topped the continent ahead of Tunisia and South Africa who were ranked second and third, respectively.

The performance signifies a slight improvement on the medal haul count compared to the previous edition in London in 2012 where Kenya clinched a total of 6 medals including 2 Gold to finish 40th overall.
