One of the most popular animes, Jujutsu Kaisen, gave Kenya and one of its most popular cooking condiments Royco a rare nod in its new movie called Jujutsu Kaisen 0.

The Kenyan scene comes in the post-credits with a shot of Nairobi’s most iconic landmarks such as animals from the Nairobi national park, the KICC building and a busy street that looks very similar to Ronald Ngala street. Three of the movie’s main characters, Satoru Gojo, Yuta and Michael have a conversation in which Michael, a native of the country, explains to Yuta what makes Royco a perfect spice.

The movie, which was released after the anime’s first season, was released in theatres in March and on streaming in September 2022.

Inspired by Gege Akutami’s Japanese manga series of the same name, Jujutsu Kaisen 0 is a dark fantasy film written by Hiroshi Seko. The Sunghoo Park directorial revolves around Yuta Okkotsu, an isolated teenager with very few friends who struggles to live with a curse laid upon him by his late girlfriend. His life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Satoru Gojo, a jujutsu sorcerer, who teaches him how to harness the power of his curse for good.

This isn’t the first time something related to Kenya was mentioned in an anime. In 2013, the anime Danshi Koukousei No Nichijou, mentioned President Mwai Kibaki.
