It has been less than a year since Kenya successfully hosted her first major athletics championship, the World Under-18 event.
The success of the event which drew a crowd of nearly 60,000 fans, hosted at the Kasarani Stadium in Nairobi has not gone unnoticed, after World Athletics governing body, IAAF, gifted Kenya the hosting rights to the World Athletics U20 championships slated for the year 2020.
During the just concluded IAAF World under 20 Championships hosted in Tampere, Finland, Kenya topped the world medal standings with a total of 11 medals; 6 Gold, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze.
And on a disappointing note, a Kenyan sprinter has been sent packing from Team Kenya camp ahead of the Africa Championships after a failed doping test case.
He becomes the third high profile athlete to test positive to some banned substance in the last two months after three time World 1,500m champion Asbel Kiprop and Kenyan-born Olympic 3,000m steeplechase gold medalist Ruth Jebet from Bahrain.
