Kenya U-20 athletics team to return home this week

The Kenya national athletics team that took part in Africa under 18 and 20 championship in Ivory Coast is expected to return home from Monday morning.

The first two batches will arrive Monday morning with the third and last batch expected in the country on Thursday morning.

Kenya were crowned champions of the under 20 categories but finished second in the under 18 years category behind table-toppers South Africa.

Kenya topped the under 20 medal table with 14 medals each, with the men collecting 8 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals while the ladies were ranked first with 5 gold, 6 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Kenya finished second in the under 18 years category, with the girls collecting a total of 9 medals; 3 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze medals while the boys finished second with 8 medals; 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals.

Among Kenyan’s gold medallists at the event which attracted more than ten countries were Nelly Moraa and Vincent Kibet; among the silver medallists, were Lindah Kageha and Brian Onyari while Mercyline Cherono and Peter Kibui were among the bronze medallists.

In total, Kenya had 18 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 11 bronze medals
