Kenyan champions GSU depart for cairo games next week

Reigning national volleyball champions GSU will leave the country on Monday next week ahead of the Africa Men’s volleyball club championship set to spike off on the 23rd of this month to 1st April in Cairo, Egypt.

The 11 time national champions were flagged off Wednesday by Commandant Stephen Chelimo at the GSU Head quarters in Ruaraka, Nairobi.

The Paramilitary side who recently reclaimed the league title from perennial rivals Kenya Prisons will be seeking to replicate the same performance at the continental showpiece.

Head coach Gideon Tarus said GSU will be targeting to qualify for the last eight after a dismal performance in the 2015 edition held in Tunisia where they finished 12th overall.

However, the team will face an uphill task in their quest to bag the African title from 11 time champions and hosts Al Ahly, Sfax of Tunisia and Zamalek.

Former league champions Kenya Prisons will also take part in the tournament after finishing second in the national playoffs held late last year at the Makande Gymnasium in Mombasa.
