Kenyan company set to begin export of PPEs, COVID-19 reagents

Revital Health Care (EPZ) Limited is set to begin exporting Personal Protective Equipment and COVID 19 reagents to help in the fight against the pandemic.

The Kenyan company manufactures medical disposables in Kilifi County and has a capacity of producing 80,000 testing kits per day.

Revital Health Care (EPZ) Limited is the only one in Africa certified to produce the reagents and PPEs.

Authorities said the Kenyan company was certified by the World Health Organisation and accredited with WHO-GMP ISO 13485 2016 EN ISO 9001 2015, CE. A mark that signifies that they are producing according to international standards.

Revital Health has already begun exporting the COVID-19 reagents to 14 countries which include Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Namibia, Zambia among others.

Dr. Ranjni Vora the Chairman of Revital Health Care (EPZ) Limited said the factory was officially opened by former President Mwai Kibaki in 2008 when it was a small industry.

“When COVID-19 came in my highlight was PPE Kits and COVID testing kits, it took me three months to get the right things done, the right approvals the right certification of my company and that’s how I started my products,” Dr Vora said.

The chairman also said that Revital Health Care (EPZ) Limited was the only company in Africa which can manufacture 80,000 tubes a day which is not possible especially the VTMs and swabs.

He said he has the certification to export the VTMs and swabs to Europe and soon it will be possible to export to the USA.

So far Dr Vora said they have employed 400 people, 80 percent of whom are women adding that his target is to reach 1000 employees.

He thanked the county government of Kilifi for approving the company to begin manufacturing adding that there are 1000 testing kits that had been ordered by the county.

Some of the other products being manufactured by his company include, Blood collection tubes  Plain no additive K3, IV canular with wings, Urine bag collection, Infusion set, Face masks surgical single three-ply, Premium surgical maskS, Specimen collection swabs among others.

Speaking after touring the company, Kilifi Governor Amason Kingi said it started manufacturing two products but currently they are producing 34 products and intend to manufacture all the 1000 medical products.

Kingi hailed the manufacturer for coming up with the production of PPEs and testing kits during this era of the pandemic.

“The idea of manufacturing PPEs and COVID-19 reagents together with all the 34 products is in line with President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Big 4 Health Agenda” said Kingi.

Kingi noted that Revital Health Care (EPZ) Limited was making some items that are only manufactured by six companies in the world which shows how big the company was.

The county boss who officially launched the first export consignment of PPEs said the president was the one fit to come and officially open the company as it fits his Big Four Agenda.

Kingi in conclusion said that Kilifi County was going to broaden mass testing, “we are going to bring in more people for testing as opposed to before.”
