The annual Zanzibar International Film Festival (ZIFF) 2018, recently concluded its 10-day run on Sunday. For the last two decades, African filmmakers travel to Zanzibar for what is considered the biggest cultural festival in East Africa. The event combines massive enjoyable opening (and closing) parties with film screenings, workshops, art exhibitions and networking opportunities.

The main goal of the festival, which began in 1997, is to develop and promote film and other cultural industries to enhance regional social and economic growth.

During the festival, only a few films are selected to screen. This year a number of films from Kenyan filmmakers were selected for screening including 18 Hours (Long features), Supa Modo (Long Features), The flesh business (Documentaries), Clench – Life of a creative (short films), Shadow (Web series) to mention a few. To read the full list of films selected to screen during the event visit ZIFF.

Other than film screenings, the festival also awards films and filmmakers whose work they believe deserves acclaim. This year, Kenyans won several of these awards. Here are all the Kenyan winners from ZIFF.
