Kibaki kin in shooting incident

A kin of former President Mwai Kibaki, George Wachira Mwai is nursing serious injuries after he was shot by unknown assailants within Rumuruti area of Laikipia County.

Mwai who was rescued by police officers who were on patrol is recuperating at the Nyahururu County and Referral Hospital with three gunshots wounds.

Mwai a kin to the former president Kibaki was shot twice on his right arm while on his way home along the Muruku-Rumuruti road.

Wachira was rushed to the  Rumuruti Health Centre where he received First Aid treatment before he was referred to Nyahururu County Hospital for further treatment.

Mwai believes the attack could be an act of retaliation by illegal grazers whose animals were confiscated after encroaching on his land.

A group of pastoralists have invade the area and are breaking into local ranches in search of pasture for their livestock.

Residents in the area claim they are witnessing numerous attacks by criminals who are in possession of unlicensed weapons.
