Kilifi County mobilizes Ksh 8.4M in Coronavirus pandemic fight

Kilifi County Government is in the process of mobilizing Ksh 8.4 Million from both the County Government and Non-Government Organizations in the area.

These funds are being mobilised to help finance the County Emergency Coronavirus Social Relief Program fund for three months.

Speaking after conducting a meeting through an online platform Governor Amason Kingi says Ksh 2.2 million will be moped up from the 2019/2020 budget which has been scaled down to help in financing the war against the Coronavirus pandemic.

The governor and the CEC members are still in quarantine after they came in direct conduct with Kilifi Deputy Governor Gideon Saburi who tested positive of the virus.

Kilifi County is now ranked the second after Nairobi in the number of reported positive cases.

This comes a few days after county officials directed all companies operating within its borders temporarily shut down operations immediately as part of ongoing efforts to contain the spread of Coronavirus.

County Public Head of Service Mkare Jefwa said companies contravening the directive risk fines and permanent closure.

The order will affect; All Economic Processing Zones, Mombasa Cement Factory, Mabati Rolling Mills, all salt processing firms, all sand harvesting quarries, coral blocks cutting quarries, all manganese quarries and other industries within the county.  

The County Government has so far established five isolation centres to quarantine any suspected victims of the virus.

Authorities have also issued a hotline for reporting any coronavirus cases so that action can be taken swiftly by the county disaster response team set up to deal with the disaster that has caused a scare in the country.

The Hotline numbers include is 0722796220 which belongs to the County CEC Member for Health Dr Omar Anisa together with 0745984244, 0793277819 and 0794497578.

The hospitals include St. Lukes Hospital to serve Rabai and Kaloleni Sub Counties while Malindi and Magarini will have an isolation centre at Msena Private Clinic.

In Kilifi North, two wards have been identified in Gede Health Center and in Mtwapa an administration building will serve Kilifi South.
