2014 Seoul International marathon champion Hellah Kiprop and Amos Matui the winner of the Hamburg half marathon; are among the elite athletes who will participate in the inaugural Assemble of Seventh Day Churches’ half marathon dubbed “BETTER LIVING HALF MARATHON” slated for the 19th of June at the Karura Forest, in Nairobi City.
The marathon that was launched Thursday by the Assembly of Seventh Day Churches Kenya in collaboration with Karura Forest Reserve at Karura forest grounds is aimed at raising funds for construction of a multipurpose worship hall and wellness centre in Parklands, Nairobi.
Parklands senior Pastor Wilson Githinji who is also the organizer of the half marathon said that they target rising over Kshs. One-Billion towards construction of the center.
Kenyan renowned athletes lead by Helen Kiprop and Amos Matui graced the occasion as marathon ambassadors and called on people to register in large numbers for the marathon slated for June this year.
Men and women athletes will participate in different race categories including 21Km, 15Km, 10Km and 5Km races.
The 21km race winner will pocket a cash award price of Kshs 250,000 while second and third positions will take home, 200,000 and 150,000 shillings for the men and women categories respectively.
