Kisii County education board has disbanded the Bonyancha Primary School Board of Management (BOM).
The BOM members were fired after they shut down the school in Nyamache sub county and ejected the head teacher from office.
The BOM members also defied the Kisii County Education Board Chairman Prof. Henry Onderi’s directive to appear before the board and explain reasons behind their drastic move to paralyze the school’s learning programmes.
The County Education Board took offense on the BOM’s decision to send the learners home and barricade the head teacher’s office warning that they cannot usurp the role of the Teachers Service Commission.
Onderi said the BOM should have followed established channels in resolving any differences between them and the head teacher instead of interfering with the school administration and its running.
The school was ordered re-opened immediately.
The drastic action comes at a time when the Ministry of Education is keen on ensuring that learners get quality education within the stipulated school calendar.
