Kisumu rolls out Universal health care project

Health workers tasked with rolling out the universal health care project have been cautioned against dipping their hands in public coffers for personal gain.

Kisumu Governor Prof. Anyang Nyong’o rolling out the county government house hold registration for residents to access to health services, called for prudent utilization of the funds.

Kisumu County is among four counties rolling out the universal health care plan on a pilot basis.

Kisumu County residents will enjoy affordable health care as the county rolls out registration of the locals under the universal health care program at the household level.

The program that will see locals enrolled under the national hospital insurance health fund will cater for those unable to pay for health services. Under the program, public primary health facilities will also be improved to meet the demand for services.

Results from the mini pilot program held at the sub county level realized an over 90% success rate.

Kisumu governor professor Anyang’o Nyongo has however warned those managing the project at both the county and national government to ensure prudent use of public funds.

Kisumu county is one of the four counties piloting the Universal health care project that is anchored on the third pillar of the big four agenda of President Uhuru Kenyatta.

The program is being piloted in four other counties across the country namely Kisumu, Nyeri, Machakos and Isiolo.
