KNBS to use mobile phones for data entry in census

The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) has been directed to generate usable statistics and data.

Planning PS Dr. Julius Muia says the success of the implementation and monitoring of the Big Four Agenda will depend on data produced by the statistics body.

Speaking during the commemoration of the African Statistics Day, Planning PS Dr. Julius Muia said successful implementation of government programs aimed at raising the standards of living of Kenyans will depend on accurate statistical data.

KNBS Director General Zachary Mwangi said the statistical body is set to rebase the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and release quarterly labour statistics in an effort to ease economic planning.

He said for the first time, the government will use mobile telephony technology in collecting data during the 2019 National Population Census to help improve accuracy of the data collected.

The Africa Statistics Day, was sanctioned by the United Nations in order to raise awareness on the need for accurate and usable statistics.
