KNH nurses protest assault on colleague

Nurses at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) Monday morning downed tools to protest the assault of their colleague by a deceased patient’s family.

The incident took place on Saturday at the KNH emergency room when a woman attempted to strangle the nurse after she informed him her child had died.

The nurse is currently admitted to the ICU.

Kenya National Union of Nurses chairman Seth Panyako said nurses withdrew their services on grounds of security challenges at the facility.

Panyako said they will use the opportunity to lobby for proper management of KNH.

KNUN vice chairman Moses Chirchir said the attacker strangled the nurse leaving her unconscious.

The nurses, however, agreed to resume duty in the afternoon after KNH Management committed to foot the injured nurses’ medical bill.

The aggrieved caregivers through their umbrella body Kenya National Union of Nurses also called on the government to give them additional security
