A caddie has died after collapsing on the 13th fairway during the first round of the Dubai Ladies Masters.

The caddie was attended to by on-site medics, but later died in hospital. Play has been suspended.

Ivan Khodabakhsh, Ladies European Tour CEO, said: “We are extremely shocked and saddened by this and have suspended play as a mark of respect.”

The first round will be completed on Thursday and the event will be reduced to 54 holes.

A total of 54 players, including Dame Laura Davies, had yet to begin their rounds when play was called off. Nobody had completed more than 10 holes.
