Laikipia Governor orders internal audit on pending bills

Laikipia Governor Ndiritu Muriithi has ordered for a special internal audit of all pending bills in Laikipia County to ascertain their authenticity.

The move comes days after National Treasury Cabinet Secretary Henry Rotich ordered the office of the auditor general to audit pending bills amounting to Ksh 100 billion in the 47 counties.

With bills worth more than Ksh 100 billion awaiting payment across counties, treasury CS Henry Rotich has since ordered an immediate audit to ascertain their legitimacy a move that Laikipia Governor Nderitu Murithi has welcomed.

Muriithi says he has already commissioned an independent internal audit team to look into the pending bills in his County ahead of the auditor’s arrival.

Nderitu said he has inherited a lot of questionable claims that he has declined to authorize until they are verified by external auditors.

Laikipia has over Ksh 1.2 Billion pending bills, out of which 700 million shillings cannot be verified according to auditors due to irregularities in procurements processes.
