Laikipia North residents decry poor roads, demand repair of roads

Residents of Mukogodo East Ward in Laikipia North are protesting the poor state of roads in the region demanding the repair of the roads for ease of movement.

The irate residents are demanding the immediate rehabilitation of the roads expressing concerns that the roads could be rendered impassable during the rains.

Residents of Laikipia North are decrying the poor state of roads in the area which they say is denying them access to crucial services at the Laikipia County Headquarters in Nanyuki a distance of over 120kilometeres.

The residents claim the infrastructure problem has forced them to seek services at the neighbouring Isiolo County.

Nominated MCA Peter Matunge said it is unfortunate that the residents resorted to repairing the roads amongst themselves, calling on the county and national government to move with speed to repair the road following the start of the long rains.

According to the residents, the road was repaired by the British Army over six years ago and efforts to have the previous and the current county governments rehabilitate it have remained futile.
