The late Kericho Deputy Governor Susan Kikwai will be laid to rest Tuesday at her father’s farm in Tugunon village in Kipkelion East, Kericho County.
Kericho Governor Paul Chepkwony confirmed at a press briefing at the Council of Governor’s offices in Nairobi that DG Susan Kikwai died of Covid-19 complications.
Kikwai succumbed while receiving treatment at Siloam Hospital for two weeks.
President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto led leaders in paying tribute to the Kikwai. The leaders also cautioned Kenyans against dropping guard against the virus.
In his message of comfort, President Uhuru Kenyatta described the departed County leader as a devoted public servant who was deeply committed to the well-being and progress of the Kenyan nation.
Deputy President William Ruto described the late Kikwai as a progressive and consummate leader who was humble, bold and a firm leader who inspired and elevated the presence and voices of women in politics.
“She was a distinguished servant leader who transformed the lives of many people. We celebrate her accomplishments and the rich legacy that she leaves behind,” said DP Ruto.
The Kericho Governor mourned Kikwai as a humble and diligent servant of the people.
He urged Kericho residents to be calm as they enter a mourning period.
He also urged Kenyans to be vigilant and not to lower their guard.
On Monday, Kericho County Assembly Speaker Dominic Rono led the Members of the County Assembly in special prayers and tributes to the leader.
They termed her as a dedicated and true servant to the people of Kericho.
