By Franco Kundu

The National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee is currently vetting the nominee for the position of Deputy Chief Justice, Philomena Mwilu at County Hall.

Prior to her vetting members of the public were required to present their views on her nomination for the position of Deputy Chief Justice.

Mwilu is set to succeed Justice Kalpana Rawal as the third Supreme Court Deputy Chief Justice.

She has defended her earlier opinion that judiciary has the responsibility of providing a model to supervise and mentor young judicial officers.

While responding to questions from members of the Legal Affairs Committee Mwilu said once appointed she will ensure there is no personal and professional conflicts when discharging her mandate.

She said she will offer liberal interpretation of law and also assist the Chief Justice effectively in the fight against corruption in the country.

Her name was forwarded by President Uhuru Kenyatta to the National Assembly for vetting prior to her official appointment.
