Liverpool put four past Red Star as Atletico suffer defeat

Mohamed Salah scored twice to reach a half-century of Liverpool goals in a comfortable victory over Red Star Belgrade, as the Reds went top of Champions League Group C.

It was a dominant display from the hosts, Roberto Firmino firing in Andy Robertson’s cut-back on 20 minutes.

Salah got his first just before the break then added a second to reach an impressive landmark by converting a penalty won by Sadio Mane.

Mane then slotted a fourth goal with 10 minutes to go, having missed another penalty just moments before.

Meanwhile, Barcelona maintained their 100% start in this season’s Champions League as they cruised to victory over Inter Milan at the Nou Camp.

Rafinha opened the scoring for the hosts, who were without Lionel Messi after he fractured his arm on Saturday, before Jordi Alba netted the Spanish giants’ second late on.

Despite threatening early on, Inter never really got going, and Barca will hope to put in a similarly stylish performance in Sunday’s El Clasico against Real Madrid.

The Italian visitors had goalkeeper Samir Handanovic to thank throughout as the Slovenian made nine saves.

They included excellent stops to deny Luis Suarez and Clement Lenglet, while Philippe Coutinho hit the Inter crossbar midway through the second half.

Elsewhere, England international Jadon Sancho scored his first Champions League goal as Borussia Dortmund recorded an impressive win over Atletico Madrid.

The teenager scored Dortmund’s third with a simple tap-in after goals from Axel Witsel and Raphael Guerreiro.

Guerreiro then made it 4-0 after capitalising on a poor back pass from Felipe Luis to finish past Jan Oblak.

The result was manager Diego Simeone’s biggest defeat in his seven years in charge of Atletico.

Finally, Angel di Maria scored a stunning stoppage-time equaliser to earn Paris St-Germain a 2-2 draw at home to Napoli in the Champions League.

Lorenzo Insigne’s first-half opener for Napoli was cancelled out by Mario Rui’s own goal in the second half.

The Italians looked to be heading for victory after Dries Mertens struck but Di Maria secured a point at the death.

The result means Liverpool overtake Napoli and go top of Group C after they beat Red Star Belgrade 4-0.
