Aguda Lwanga and Naiya Gosrani will begin the defense of their Mini Chess series titles this Saturday when they take to the board for the first leg of the eight-leg series to be held at Peponi School in Ruiru.
Lwanga and Gosrani outclassed their opponents last season to be crowned series champions of 2018.
The duo emerged winners in the under 18 years category while Odongo Lwanga and Ashley Muriithi won the under 14 years title.
Other winners were Mark Alando and Elsie Muturi, Rakesh Shah and Devashri Sanjay and Tendai Kadzutu and Janvi Shah in the under 12, 10 and eight-years categories respectively.
The champions are however expecting a competitive season as over 200 players have confirmed their participation.
After the Peponi leg, the players will head to Alliance Girls for the second leg mid next month while the final leg will be held in October this year at a venue yet to be decided.
The series is part of a junior development programme by Mini Chess with the aim of growing the sport countrywide and ensuring that Kenyan talent is nurtured at the lowest level and also ensure players gain the skill to play at a more competitive and international level in the near future.
