Magana, Ndirangu earn Kenya points in Chess Olympiad

Kenya number one Ben Magana and Joyce Ndirangu earned the country her first points at the ongoing 43rd Chess Olympiad in Batumi, Georgia.

After all the eight Kenyan players lost their first-round matches, Ben Magana drew with Kayonde Andrew of Zambia in his second match to earn half a point as Joyce Ndirangu also drew with Arrieta Rodriguez of Costa Rica to earn half a point.

Other players in the Kenyan team competing at the event which ends on 6th of next month include Joseph Methu and Gloria Jumba.

The event also granted Rehema Khimulu the chance to be an arbiter at the Olympiad, being only the second Kenyan lady to officiate at an event of such magnitude after Purity Maina did the same four years ago.
