Makueni, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet Kenya’s top optimistic counties

Kenya’s rate of optimism has dropped by 10 % as compared to five years ago.

A report by Infotrack Research paints a grim picture of the country’s optimism indicating only Uasin Gishu County recorded a positive trend of the 47 counties.

Counties recording an increase in optimism include Makueni, West Pokot Machakos, Bomet, Kericho, Kwale ,Mandera,Marsabit,Uasin Gishu,  Nyandarua and Embu.

According to the latest survey, city dwellers are especially extremely discouraged by their current circumstances. Interestingly, the survey shows that the youth are more optimistic than older citizens.

The report has also ranked Nairobi, Trans Nzoia, Taita Taveta Mombasa Nyamira, Busia and Siaya  as the most unoptimistic counties.

According to the report the general optimism index dropped by as much as 10% compared to 2015 where the figure stood at 75.5 percent.

The study which consisted of 33 indicators and five approval rating questions showed that Uasin Gishu was the only county in Kenya that registered an increase in the optimism index.

According to the survey that Makueni, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Tharaka Nithi, West Pokot, Nyandarua, Embu, Machakos, Kericho, and Kwale are the most optimistic counties..

Kilifi, Nyamira and Migori  are among 10 counties that were recorded as the least optimistic.

Some of the factors that contributed to optimism included proximity to top political power, open governance, change for personal development as well as education.
