Man accused of obtaining money by false pretense arrested

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have arrested a man accused of defrauding people with the promise that he can secure them employment in Qatar.

The suspect identified as Joseph Kipkoech Keino was arrested on Monday afternoon.

The detectives however did not disclose how many people fell victim to his fraud, saying he will be charged with obtaining money under false pretenses.

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji has directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to investigate and bring to book fraudster land buying companies conning the public of money with promises of allocating them land alleged to be property of International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI)..

In a press statement on Monday, Haji says he will ensure that he brings to book staff of Makonze Society and Kamulu Self Help Group.

He has also asked members of the public not to make any further payments and stop engaging with the two organizations.

” Members of the public are advised not to make any further payments nor engagement with any of these entities either by themselves, their agents and or proxies. To those members of the public who may have fallen victim of their alleged extortionist acts are advised to make to contact with the Directorate Criminal Investigations and avail them any documents that may be in their possession to assist in unraveling the fraudulent scheme.” He said.
