Man caught on camera assaulting his wife in Makueni arrested

The man from Makueni County who was caught on camera assaulting his wife has been arrested by police.

Daudi Nzomo was arrested at Nguu market on Thursday. Police had been pursuing him from Tuesday after the video went viral.

Makueni county commissioner Mohammed Maalim said he was taken to Nguu AP camp.

The victim identified as Winfred Mwende is at Makueni Level Four Hospital.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Gender now says Mwende will receive government support to enable her earn an income.

According to Gender Affairs Cabinet Secretary Margaret Kobia, Mwende will be enrolled in a government financial programme.

The incident is said to have happened in Makueni County and according to the CS, Mwende’s main occupation is herding family cattle.

“The husband, one David Nzomo, accused her of unfaithfulness after she received some phone calls and started to beat her,” she stated.

“I congratulate the in-laws for rescuing Ms Mwende and taking her to hospital. The matter was also reported at Makueni Divisional Police headquarters,” added the minister.

On Tuesday, the Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji had directed the Directorate of Criminal Investigations to arrest the man and have him charged.

“The DPP further directed that those who watched and participated in the unacceptable brutality, be arrested too,” said a tweet from the DPP.
