Security officers have repulsed suspected Al Shabaab militants who attempted to raid Fino Town, Mandera County.
The officers engaged the attackers in a fierce gun battle before they managed to escape towards Somalia during the dawn incident.
The heavily armed gunmen believed to be members of the Somali based Al-shabaab terror group launched a dawn raid in Fino town but security officers managed to stop their advance.
During the fierce exchange of fire, the attackers destroyed a telecommunication mast before escaping.
Police said the shootout was a diversionary tactic by the suspected terrorists to allow another group plant improvised explosive devices (IEDs) on the targeted mast.
This is the second time such an incident, targeting communication masts, has been reported in the area.
Last month, another mast was destroyed in Damasa area by criminals suspected to be from the same group. No one was injured during the latest incident.
