The music masterclass was borne out of the all-inclusive nature of the Jameson brand which sought to spread the experience beyond fans to local artists as well.

During their stay in Kenya, American singer, songwriter, and record producer, Ty Dolla $ign and South African rapper and songwriter Nasty C took time off the stage to hold a masterclass with select local artists courtesy of the Jameson Connects 2017 experience.

“Unlike the previous experiences, we wanted this year’s Jameson Connects to also impact the local music industry by providing an avenue for local artists to interact with the international acts and learn from one another,” said Predrag Amidzic – Managing Director, Pernod Ricard Kenya & East Africa.

“I’m always in the studio 24/7 making music. So just hit me or any of my team members up,” said the “Blasé” hit songwriter.

He also advised artists to always stay grounded and true to themselves. “As long as you are happy with what you do then it doesn’t matter what other people think, the rest will follow” he added.

Nasty C told his Kenyan counterparts that music is a form of expression and therefore they shouldn’t allow other people to dictate their choice of expression. “I personally rap in English as it helps me deliver the feeling I’d like to express best. Always choose the form of expression that delivers your message,” he added.

The masterclass ties back into the spirit of Jameson Connects, which is to inspire people to let go of their social fears and embrace a real moment to bond and connect – driven by the Jameson family motto ‘Sine Metu’, which means ‘Without Fear’.
