Mathare United now tops KPL table

Mathare United returned to the top of the Kenyan Premier League table after beating Sofapaka 3-1  in a league match played Suday at the Machakos Stadium. 

Mathare now tops the log with 10 points after 4 matches this season while Sofapaka lie 15th with 3 points after winning only one match so far.

Mathare opened the scoring in the first half through Francis Omondi’s penalty. Crispin Odour doubled the lead to make it 2-0.

Sofapaka Ugandan Keeper Kigonya well taken penalty kick ensured a 2-1 scoreline into the halftime break. In the final half, Seda got his name on the score-sheet with a goal at the 63rd minute.

In other matches played Sunday, AFC Leopards registered their first league win this season after beating former champions Ulinzi stars 2-1 at the Thika Municipal stadium.

Ingwe who were knocked out of the CAF Confederation Cup last Wednesday had played one league match this season.

Zoo Kericho also recorded their first win this season after beating Thika United 2-1 at the Kericho Green Stadium.

Meanwhile, National Under 20 team reported to camp  Sunday at the Moi International sports center Kasarani to prepare for the Under 20 Africa Cup of nation qualifiers.

A squad of 30 players was named Saturday by the Football Kenya Federation ahead of next month’s friendly matches against Tanzania and Egypt.

The two friendly matches will be played at the newly built Bomu Stadium in Mombasa. The 30 players were picked from 100 who took part in a four-day trial exercise at Kasarani early this week.

The players were scouted from the ongoing Chapa Dimba Youth tournament as well as the FKF Leagues. The team will use the friendly matches to prepare for the Africa Under-20 Cup of Nations qualifiers which begin on 1st of April. Kenya has never qualified for Africa U-20 Cup of Nations since 1981.
