Mombasa ODM chairman Mohammed Hatimy, also a nominated MCA has passed on.

Hatimy who was reported to have tested positive for Covid-19 died at 3 am Saturday after his lungs collapsed.

He had been receiving treatment at Mombasa Hospital and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.

Hatimy was the husband to Dr Khadija Shikelly, the Mombasa County Medical Services Chief Officer.

He is to be buried on Saturday at Kikowani Cemetery after 1 pm prayers at Ummu Kultum Mosque.

Hatimy’s death comes three weeks after operations at the Mombasa County Assembly were suspended after three Members of the County Assembly tested positive for Covid-19.

All members of the county assembly had undertaken Covid-19 tests prior in what the majority chief whip Junior Wambua said was a routine exercise conducted every three months.

Wambua said operations at the assembly would remain suspended for the next 14 days with the premises set for fumigation.

Other staff at the assembly were also instructed to undertake the Covid-19 tests as contact tracing began.

According to data released by the Ministry of Health on Friday, Mombasa County accounted for 183 positive cases.

In terms of sub-county numbers, Mvita has 64 positive cases while Nyali has 37, Kisauni 32, Likoni 20, Jomvu 19 and Changamwe 11.

The ODM party in honour of Hatimy tweeted, “a beautiful soul has stopped beating. A great man has fallen. The ODM family has lost a good man and leader. Hon Mohamed Hatimy, our Mombasa County Chairman and a second-term nominated MCA,  is dead. We shall miss you, Kiongozi.”
