Mother commits suicide after failing to raise daughters school fees

A mother from Kavisuni location in Kitui County has committed suicide after failing to raise school fees for her child.

The woman aged 37 took her life after failing to raise form one school fee for her young daughter who scored 396 marks in last year’s Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.

The girl had received two admission letters from Machakos girls high school and Chogoria Girls.

Addressing the press moments after visiting the family, Kitui Women Representative Irene Kasalu said that it was disheartening for the county to have been affected by the incidence, she also offered to educate the girl’s brother.

This after the young girl by the name Ruth Kioko was offered a scholarship by Marion Schools.

“We managed to talk to the young girl who said that she never knew that her mother could do such a thing, though she had told her mother that she might commit suicide if she wouldn’t find school fees for her.” She said

The girl’s father said that he was shocked by the news, but he wasn’t able to respond immediately.
