Police in Nyeri have intercepted a Moyale bound bus in Karatina town after it was found ferrying a consignment of bhang.

The 9.00 pm incident left the passengers stranded at the Karatina police station where they spent the night in the cold after the bus was impounded for further investigations.

According to one of the passengers Badasa Ali the left the Eastleigh terminus in the early evening while a middle aged man boarded the bus at Pangani bust stop carrying a  bag that he later abandoned on the bus and alighted at Sagana.

Simba Coach Manager Ali Hassan attributed the incident to business rivalry alleging that this was a set-up by their competitors.

Ali noted that they are nine days old operating on the Nairobi to Moyale route and since the first day they have encountered many challenges with their buses getting attacked in Moyale, Marsabit and Pangani, cases he said they had reported to the police.

The bus has a capacity of 60 passengers but when it was intercepted it had only 35 passengers.

The driver, conductor and four crew members were arrested and are held at Karatina Police station for further investigations.
