MP Silvanus Osoro released on Kshs 50,000 cash bail

South Mugirango Member of Parliament Silvanus Osoro was Monday arraigned in Kisii Law court over malicious damage to property and incitement.

Osoro was charged that on 4/3/2021 at Kiamokama location within Masaba Sub County in Kisii County jointly with others not before the court willfully damaged motor vehicle windscreen, door and window total value Ksh 200,000 the property of Peter Karanja.

The legislature has been charged on malicious damage to property contrary to section 33(1) of the penal code.

Mr Osoro pleaded not guilty before chief Magistrate Nathan Shiundu.

Osoro Defence Lawyers Alice Wahome , Gladsy Boss, Wikins Ochoki, Mose Nyambega and Japhet Mutai submitted for a free bond or cash bail.

Wilkins Ochoki Osoro’s lead defence lawyer said that the accused person is an officer, a lawyer and to be released on a bond.

The Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) opposed the free bond and cash bail saying this is too lenient for the accused.

Osoro was released on a bond of Ksh.100,000 and a cash bail of 50,000 with a similar a surety.

The Case was adjourned for 22nd March 2021 for mentioning.

Earlier on the day, MP Osoro had presented himself before the Kisii DCI offices for questioning after his vehicle was impounded on Thursday last week during the Kiamokama By-election.
