Mutahi Kahiga to be sworn in as Nyeri governor Monday

Nyeri Deputy Governor, Mutahi Kahiga, will on Monday take oath of office as the area governor.

Addressing journalists Saturday, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu said the decision was reached by the county leadership after consultations with the National Government and the Council governors.

Kahiga will be sworn into office in a brief ceremony at the County headquarters in Nyeri town at 2pm.

Wambugu who is also the co-chair of the funeral planning committee of the late governor revealed that the decision to swear-in Kahiga was taken despite him wanting it done after the funeral.

Immediate former Governor, Samuel Wamathai, nonetheless defended the move, saying any contrary move was equivalent to creating a power vacuum and holding the county at ransom.

The MP added that a series of prayers from various groups in the county will be conducted at Kamukunji Grounds in Nyeri town every day starting from on Sunday.

The late Gakuru met his untimely death last Tuesday morning at Kabati area in Murang’a County along the Murang’a-Thika Highway.

He will be accorded a state burial next Saturday at his home in Kirichu, Kiganjo/Mathari ward, Nyeri Town Constituency.
