Muturi calls off Wednesday’s Special Sittings of National Assembly

The Special Sittings of the National Assembly scheduled for Wednesday 13th July 2022 have been called off, House Speaker Justin Muturi has announced.

Muturi, in a statement, noted that his decision to cancel the sittings arises from an alleged failure by the Government Printer to publish the Gazette Notice for the extraordinary session.

“It is worth noting that the Government Printer has declined and failed to Gazette the special sittings for reasons not explained to us, despite the requisite documentation being forwarded to his office in good time last week,” the speaker said

He disclosed that the situation compelled him to call off the sittings to allow consultations by the Executive.

The Gazette Notice, according to Muturi, would have among other things facilitated the publication of an Order Paper showing the business to be transacted by the House.

The Speakers announcement is in response to his communication last week recalling all members of the national assembly from recess for what had been described as urgent business.

The speaker however indicated he is available to facilitate a special sitting between now and the end of the term of the current parliament if need be.
