Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi has forwarded the names of members to the selection panel for the appointment of new IEBC commissioners to President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Muturi forwarded the names amid concern by analysts over the absence of a substantive Chief Justice to swear in the panel that will determine the men and women who will manage the next polls.
it appears various stakeholders are also opposed to attempts to push forward the election date from August to December.
But political analysts warn that short listing and vetting of new IEBC commissioners might take longer owing to the absence of a substantive Chief Justice to swear in the panel into office.
According to Politcal Analyst Martin Andati, parliament needs to fast track the process if the electoral timelines are to be adhered to.
And with political atmosphere abuzz with debate as to whether the next general elections will be held on August 8th 2017 as stipulated in the constitution, The National Council of Non-Governmental Organizations is opposed to reported attempts to alter the election date terming such attempts unconstitutional.
Their concerns receiving support from Andati who argues that it will be too hard to alter the date of the next elections.
