NA approves Anne Neditu's nomination as registrar of political parties

The National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs Committee has approved President Uhuru Kenyatta’s nominee for Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu.

The committee has however rejected the appointment of Wilson Makore as assistant registrar but at the same time approved the appointments of Ali Abullahi Surro and Florence Taabu as assistant registrars.

Nderitu had been holding the position in an acting capacity since 2018 when she took over from Lucy Ndung’u who was moved to the Commission on Administrative Justice.

The interviews for shortlisted candidates were held between June 29 and July 2, 2020, at the city’s PSC offices.

President Uhuru Kenyatta nominated Nderitu for consideration on 8th September.

In appointing the assistant registrars, the Political Parties Act requires that not more than two individuals shall be persons from the same gender in the spirit of the two-thirds gender rule.

Committee Chairperson Muturi Kigano tabled the report which will be considered by the plenary on Thursday afternoon.

Nderitu and her assistants will serve for a non-renewable term of six years and will not be eligible for re-appointment.
