Nakuru County to be upgraded into a Metropolis City

Nakuru County is set to be upgraded to a metropolis city in the next six months.

The area Governor Lee Kinyanjui says the newly appointed Nakuru City Upgrade Committee will oversee the transformation of the town.

At Nakuru town, various projects are in progress with the aim to transform the town in to a city before mid-next year.

Over the years Nakuru has become a fast growing hub for financial services, retail, tourism, fast moving consumer goods, telecoms, real estate and construction.

Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui says plans are underway to oversee the transformation of Nakuru town in to a city.

According to Kinyanjui the newly appointed Nakuru City Upgrade Committee will oversee various development projects to fulfill the master plan.

Nakuru Opinion Leaders Caucus Secretary General Ezekiel Kamau has lauded the move saying the transformation was overdue.

His sentiments were echoed by former Nakuru MCA Catherine Njeri who said the town is among the biggest commercial and economic hubs in Kenya and is rated among the top five contributors to the National GDP.

She called on all residents to accord the county government the necessary support to ensure the dream is fully realized.

Residents of Nakuru County have called on the government to develop road networks, lighting, and water and sewer systems as it transitions.
