Naomi Campbell just became the International Magical Kenya ambassador

The Ministry of Tourism has appointed international supermodel Naomi Campbell to be Magical Kenya’s International Ambassador. As such here are five things you need to know about the model.

Naomi is of Chinese and Jamaican descent

She was raised by her grandmother and aunts in South London while her mother toured the world as a dancer.

She loves Africa

In her November 2019 interview done by Nosheen Iqbal for The Guardian, Naomi stated that she feels at peace in Africa. A peace she called “ a very real inner peace.”

She is known for encouraging global companies to invest in fashion in Africa

It is well known that she encouraged French luxury company Kering Group to invest in a fashion college in Kenya and other places in Africa.

She is an original 5 supermodel

Although the term Supermodel was coined as early as 1947, it was widely used later in the late ’80s and early ’90s. The term was used to refer to Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Christy Turlington, Linda Evangelista and Claudia Schiffer, aptly called “The Big Five.”

She has been in Kenya since December

Naomi has been on tour in the country since December. She arrived on December 15th at 10.30 pm.

She is a big believer and supporter of African fashion

Arise Fashion Week is one of the world’s leading fashion platforms out of Africa. Annually, future fashion designers compete for $500,000 in prize money. Last year, Iona McCreath from Kenya participated in the event where Naomi was a judge.

She once walked the runway in a dress inspired by the Kenyan flagAt Paris fashion week last year, Naomi walked the catwalk wearing a dress inspired by the Kenyan flag designed by Kenneth Ize.
